Mark your calendars and register!!! - VC in the OC is September 12th @ the Balboa Bay Club in Newport Beach

I will post a condensed “recap” of this year’s event, but this will be my last post on the topic until such time (I promise). You can get the details and register by going to the official website at VC in the OC but, for your convenience, I’ve included the details below for your consideration.

Additionally, as I will be moderating this year’s event, we have decided to accept questions for the VC panel (see below) in advance so if you have a burning question you’d like me to ask one or all of the panelists, please leave a comment here or submit one through the official website as I will be collecting them from now until September 10th. Please keep in mind that the panel is only one hour so I won’t be able to get through all the questions but I’ll do my best.

Mission Completion

Well, I moved my Wordpress hosted blog over to my own domain name (and another host) so this will be the first test as to whether I migrated my feed correctly.  If you receive this through my feed, then it means I did.  If not, then who knows…  Either way, I will only be posting from this new site so I hope you like it.  Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Where in the world is OC VC? Part Deux

In addition to using Twitter, here’s a Google map I created showing some of my haunts here in “The OC”. Feel free to explore and, more importantly, suggest other places worth eating or grabbing a cup of coffee or drink at!

In case anyone has ever told you “you don’t know Jack…”

Venture Capital 101

A friend of mine, Matt Waterman, and I presented to a group of patent attorneys at Knobbe, Marten, Olsen & Bear a few months ago and I thought I’d share the presentation here as I’m often asked to explain what venture capital is to folks here in The OC. Anyway, the presentation is an oversimplification but will give you an idea of what venture capital is. Besides, I’ve been meaning to try Slideshare for awhile now and this was a good excuse to do so. Enjoy the show.

Quick Updates - My Damn Channel & VC in the OC

Two unrelated updates here.  First, I attended My Damn Channel’s “launch” party last night at James Beach in Venice and man do I feel old.  I hadn’t been to Venice for at least 10 years so it was an experience to say the least… I guess I’m just rusty or something because I was feeling it this morning and didn’t make it out for my usual 6am swim.  Anyway, I met Jill Sobule at the party last night (along with Don Was, Harry Shearer, et al) and was impressed by her understanding of this “new media” transition we’re at the dawn of.  Check her out - I have a feeling she will do well in the industry.  The company is also progressing nicely in terms of Internet/user metrics so I’m very pleased and proud of the team and look forward to the year(s) to come here…

My second update is with respect to VC in the OC.  Our registration site is now up at VC in the OC and provides more details on the event (register fast though as we were bombarded with registrations when we went live so they’re going fast).  Until next time, aloha.

My Damn Channel

Well, it’s official… My Damn Channel launched yesterday to much fanfare and attention (see pieces here). I had intended on taking yesterday off to enjoy my birthday a bit and go surfing, but I ended up spending the day fielding questions from the press and fellow VCs - all seemingly interested in My Damn Channel. So, what the heck is My Damn Channel anyway?

Here is their official overview:

“My Damn Channel is an entertainment studio and new media platform created to empower artists to co-produce, distribute and monetize original, episodic video content. Programming is created by artists for the My Damn Channel site and for syndication on today’s most heavily-trafficked online communities and social networks. My Damn Channel gives its artists 100% creative control to develop their own brands and new storylines. My Damn Channel produces a diverse array of programming and… blah, blah, blah. Are you still reading this crap? This is the web age. People don’t read anymore. If you really want to see what we’re all about, check out Promosexual.”

I’ll post more on this topic next week after the dust has settled a bit and will share my reasoning for getting involved with the company. Until then, as they say, stay tuned and enjoy the video below.
